Where Do You Look For A Source of Energy
by Susan Thom(42)http://onsuchthings.com
I think all of us look towards some source of energy for our inspiration. There needs to be something that pushes us to fling the covers off, and get out of bed every morning. If not for an enjoyable job, or the responsibilities of being a stay at home mom or dad, or the need to go off to school, we may never get out of bed.
Something has to inspire us. A vacation coming up, a new baby on the way or just born, kids getting ready to graduate, family coming to visit, a beautiful home and lucious property, or articles to read and write. All give us inspiration to make our coffee or tea, take our bath or shower, and move forward.
I think inspiration is such an important tool in our lives. It enables us to say and do things we otherwise may not have the strength to say and do. It also helps keep the depression at bay. We have events to look forward to, as in the birth of a new child, or a promotion at work, or a new relationship that seems to be going really well.
This inspiration then feeds into our energy and we find ourselves vacuuming, stripping the bed, cleaning the bathroom, making a nice dinner, and actually enjoying ourselves. The sunrise, or sunset, or a rainbow, or rain shower, all can inspire us if we leave ourselves open to the fact that we can extract inspiration from positive energy .
Driving through the mountains, waterfalls popping up every so often, the river flowing on the other side, can inspire. The greenery is calming and feels so natural, and in the fall, the colors of the leaves are incredible. As we maneuver our car home, it would be helpful to absorb some of that positive feeling and use it to our advantage.
Maybe we'll get the laundry done we've been putting off, or begin the book we've been meaning to read, or write, or begin preparing a wonderful meal for dinner. Nature's inspiration is boundless. If we happen to be an artist, we may be inspired to paint a beautiful landscape.
Maybe we'll stop in to see a sick friend, with a big bowl of chicken soup from the corner deli. We might scoop up the kids and take them to McDonald's and off to the park to eat at the picnic benches. All these ideas are coming at us from somewhere. Our mind may be doing the walking, but who's doing the talking?
Who's lifting our spirit to go the extra mile? I think our mom and dad's teachings are in mind when we try to do what's right, but again, these are words. Where does the inspiration come from? What recharges our batteries when we don't feel like taking the kids to the park, or going to a family reunion, or paying the bills, or taking out the garbage? What source is providing the desire to work every day, whether inside the house or out?
We may not come with visible chords attached that we can plug in, but there is a connection. For me, that connection comes through a power greater than myself, greater than you, greater than all of us. God knows when I'm tired, or something is weighing heavily on my mind. I believe it is in these times that I am restored by His energy and grace.
When I look out my kitchen window and see the lake in the back, and brilliant green, velvety grass, and a fence I love, I am inspired. This helps me do my daily touch ups around the house, and everything looks just right, and again, I am inspired. I sit at my computer and read e mails, type e mails, read articles, write articles, and I am inspired.
I turn my chair around and look out the window and see the mountains and more deep green, plush grass. I love the white doily type curtains with flowers, and the green chenille drapes surrounding them on the two windows. I look around, and I am inspired.
Giving my younger son money to get balloons for his older brother, coming home tonight from air force training, inspires me. Putting the balloons on the mailbox, inspires me. Being a mother inspires me, and has for almost 24 years.Having a son in the air force, and a daughter going into the army saddens me. However, I can't help but also be inspired by their courage, and desire to do better.
I have found a lot of inspiration in this day alone. All little things that cost nothing, but brought me gold. Lifted my spirits, helped push me ahead in a positive way. I am thankful and grateful to God for all He has put before my eyes. That includes the good with the bad. The bad is painful, but a smart teacher as well.
I have made a commitment to myself to live more freely from now on, and I will keep it. To me, freely just means honestly, humbly peacefully, and openly. If something hurts, I cry, if something is funny, I laugh, if I think of something nice, I smile, if something goes wrong, I deal with it. No more stress. No more worry. I have simply been inspired to live happily.
