Inspiration And Hope, The Two Main Ingredients

by Susan Thom

There are times when life's problems and relationships dim our spirit and cloud our minds. We may feel like spending all of our time wrapped up in our soft cotton sheets and down comforters. Nothing seems to get us moving. Watching tv and drifting off to sleep now and then is sometimes all we can handle. Our world feels bleak, and we don't seem to care.

Inspiration and hope are two main ingredients that can help us out of such a dire situation. Staying put isn't going to add any enjoyment to our lives. We need some good old motivation. Hard to come up with while under the spell of doom. Okay, so how about some incentive? Incentive has helped me more than anything in times of crisis and lethargy.

I was very ill at one point, and I only got out of bed when my kids got home from school. However, if they had basketball or softball practice, or a game, I was right there. I had incentive to move! I didn't want to get dressed and drive and sit, but I did want to see my kids excel at the sports they picked and loved, and that was enough to get up and out.

If someone I cared about and liked spending time with, was coming for a visit, it was the incentive I again needed to get me showered, dressed, hair done, a little make up, and wala, the world thought I was ready for it. If, however, the incentive hadn't been there, I would have stayed in bed. The urge to do something can surpass the urge not to, when we have a reason to participate in life.

The different aspects of life instill hope that each new day will be filled with happy surprises. We hope those we see and deal with will be in good moods, and that whatever we have planned, goes accordingly. We hope that better days are around the corner, and we will live calmly and happily. Once our vision has been illuminated again, we are capable of doing whatever we can to make us feel alive and thriving.

One day, our world may be dismal and depressed, and the next, we may remember our inspiration and hope, and our world turns around again. I have an annoying habit of letting my hair grow until one day, I look in the mirror, and it's a mad dash to the salon. I can't stand looking at it anymore. Now, I have incentive to get ready and go for my cut, hoping I'm going to feel so much better when I get done.

All of a sudden, there is anticipation and excitement. One minute down in the dumps, and soon after, elated and happy. Of course, the true passing of life's test is not to need anything to push us into living. However, we're being realistic here. With so much uncertainty and fear in our days, it's good to hold onto as much inspiration and hope as we possibly can.

If we enjoy our jobs and those we work with, there is incentive to get up and out every morning. If we have our eye on a new home, we have incentive to work towards being able to afford it. We may want a new car or a boat or a barbecue grill. It doesn't really matter what the object is, just that it gives us that added push to get us from depression to inspiration and hope.

When we have expectations and desires, we can use the feelings of well-being and peace we are feeling, and apply them to doing whatever it is we need to get done. There will always be times we need to rest our minds, bodies, and spirits. Dealing with problems that need to be analyzed and taken care of is the very essence of life, really. If we can let simple things inspire us and move us forward, we can rid ourselves of some of the stress we find ourselves under at times.

I think we can all find something to be inspired over, and we can look forward to happenings that will come in the future and bring us hope now. It is enlightenment, and through that enlightenment, shall come the very core of our inspiration and hope. With imagination, trust, and Faith, we can expect good to come our way. Each minute is a chance to start over. And each day is a chance for us to give back what we have been so freely given.
