Sitting In The Boat

by Tiger
http://thetigerroars.blogspot.com/

For years I sat in the boat waiting for the waves and wind to calm.

I spent those years trying to figure out my path. At the time, it was a traditional Christian path. I went from Biblical Fundamentalist to Moderate; from Moderate to Liberal; from Liberal to Heretical, all the while continually tweaking my theology until it was right.

Only then would I step out of the boat.

Except it never was right. So I sat and sat, waiting and waiting, trying to figure it all out. Then one day, the sun broke through the clouds. That glimpse of a ray of light was all it took.

I stood up and stepped out of the boat. And I did it without knowing what the path was.

I had gone from someone who thought he was certain to someone who didn't have a clue. From Fundamentalist Christian to...whatever I am now...Christian Taoist? Buddhist? Pagan?

Or maybe just Human.

Nowadays I think little about theology. I meditate, pray, read, and mostly...pay attention. I walk and watch nature, always looking and listening to see what I can learn. Everything looks different, but I know now that's because I have different eyes.

I have plenty of knowledge. I'm working on the wisdom.

hi tiger,

this is a well written and interesting article.

i have been focusing on nature in the past 2 years, going through a divorce, hitting my bottom, becoming bankrupt in all ways, going through enough experiences, and raising 3 children, to have knowledge. i, too, am working on turning that knowledge into wisdom.

thanks for sharing,

my best regards,

sue thom

Thanks again :)  One of the things I actually remember about the movie Peaceful Warrior was the phrase, "Wisdom is doing."  My motto has become, "Don't analyze, just be and do."

I think your analogy if superb. So many humans grasp at anything to find meaning/or apply meaning to everything. Meanwhile, they do nothing at all with their time and never get out of the boat! Brilliant

Thank you, Ben.  I'm gratified that you were able to take something from it.
