Be Aware of Dominating Thoughts

by Avis Ward

What is your most dominate thought? There can be but one. What does your mind shift to when this thought flutters away? Psychologists tell us that we always move toward our most dominate thoughts.

What you are presently doing came from your last dominate thought. This does not mean it is what you would prefer to be doing. Our actions are determined by our last most dominate thought.

This being true, it would be wise for us to think on things that are lovely, true, virtuous and worthwhile. Our lives will then become a reflection of these things. We can move confidently in the direction of our dreams, goals, ambitions and purpose.

One cannot deny it takes a calm demeanor to advance toward goodness. Married to calmness would be patience. Life has taught some of us that through prayer and meditation, we can find both. Others repeat mantras and positive affirmations.

The idea being, if chaos is present, peace eludes us unless we know how to become centered. Thinking on chaos will yield chaotic results. I do not feel there is a mystery surrounding what I am advocating. It is a simple yet powerful concept. The mystery enters when we add Jesus Christ. His followers have been assured we will be kept in perfect peace if our mind is stayed on Him.

We believe He is lovely, true, pure, virtuous, worthwhile, All That and More! His teachings position us to set goals for our most dominant thoughts. Wishing you had the money to open a savings account will not open it with the minimum required initial deposit. If you obsess on it, that word is used for illustration purposes only; you will likely opt to eat in more instead of going out for meals. The tipping alone for a family of four is a great place to save money toward the initial deposit. If eating out, you will add up the costs and make choices supporting your budget instead of sabotaging it.

This is not about goal setting or your life plans but they work together. Your dominant thoughts can be carefully chosen. We have within ourselves the power to write the script for our lives.

If we but change our thoughts we can change our lives. Knowing what we want as the ultimate prize creates dominate thoughts and anxiety. Anxiety is normal when we move out of our comfort zone. But again, we can choose prevailing thoughts to propel us purposefully in the direction of the plans He has for us. They are plans made long before we were ever born. We have confidence in our Guide and the anxiety becomes excitement.

Be a thinker but be wise about what you think.
